New Medical Benefits Of Watermelon

The Watermelon has been an important part of the American culture for decades. Discovered as an edible fruit as far back as the mid-10th century AD, and introduced by Native American?s in the mid-1600, Watermelon is a vine-grown fruit that is comprised of 92 percent water, 6 percent sugar and 2 percent of other essential vitamins and enzymes. The study was carried out on healthy nonsmoking adults over specified periods of time. Beta carotene is the pigment or the coloring agent that is found in Vitamin A, which is a great support to the body?s defense system.


But the most shocking discovery was recently conducted by Dr. Bhimu Patil, the director of Texas A&M?s Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Center which suggest that Watermelon helps boost the libido. "The more we study watermelons, the more we realize just how amazing a fruit it is in providing natural enhancers to the human body," stated Dr. Patil. "The citrulline-arginine relationship helps heart health, the immune system and may prove to be very helpful for those who suffer from obesity and type 2 diabetes. Arginine boosts nitric oxide, which relaxes blood vessels, the same basic effect that Viagra has, to treat erectile dysfunction and maybe even prevent it."


Additional research conducted by Dr. Sibu Saha at the University of Kentucky by Dr Sibu Saha, watermelon juice helps to reduce atherosclerosis. A study with conducted with mice given a high cholesterol diet. After a specific period of time, one group was given watermelon juice and the control group was given water. The former group showed a decrease in weight due to loss of fat. This reduction in cholesterol in the plasma is related to the alleviation of atherosclerosis.
